Final Report on Municipal Loan Guarantees and Loans

first_imgOmbudsman Dwight Bishop released his report today, May 12, regarding an investigation examining nine municipalities providing loan guarantees and loans to the former South West Shore Development Authority. The investigation concluded nine municipalities authorized guarantees and expenditure of public funds outside the authority of the Municipal Government Act. The investigation also examined the oversight role of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. The report contains six recommendations. Mr. Bishop recommends that public funds not be used to pay the loan guarantees and the municipalities are to recover the money related to the loans. Four of the recommendations deal specifically with Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations and its processes regarding the act and municipal funds. The report is available at read more
