Redmond’s 17-yard reception saved the Heralds (5-0), who rallied from a 13-0 halftime deficit in the league opener. Campbell Hall (5-1), No. 3 in the Daily News’ Small Schools rankings and No. 1 in Southern Section Div. XIII, had surrendered only 19 points in its previous five games. The Vikings had taken the lead with 1:54 left on Elliott Battle’s 20-yard touchdown run. Battle had provided Campbell Hall good field position with a long kickoff return to the Herald 44. Whittier Christian, ranked fifth in Div. XIII, was limited to 27 yards offense in the first half, but Esteban Camarillo scored the first points against the Vikings in 11-plus quarters, a 31-yard touchdown run in the third. Marc Tyler rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries. _ Bob Timmermann Carpinteria 9, Oak Park 7: Oak Park (2-3) scored with 4:20 left but could not overcome three field goals by Carpinteria’s Joel Vasquez in a league opener. Oak Park scored on Doug Deakin’s 40-yard pass to Matt Alexander. _ Mike Johnson SANTA FE LEAGUE Salesian 20, St. Genevieve 16: Tim Quijada led Salesian of Los Angeles (3-3) in the league opener, carrying 24 times for 141 yards and three touchdowns.
